Everyone knows about the advantage of using videos in marketing. Not only do videos help transmitting a message in just a few seconds and connect with your audience emotionally. When done right, videos also rank on the top spots of search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo.
Still many people aren’t using videos, whether they don’t like to be in front of the camera or they find screen recording software like Camtasia Studio just too pricey.
You will be surprised how many free software like Camtasia you can find online that undoubtedly is suitable to create your marketing videos from a previously created presentation.
Here are 3 free alternatives to Camtasia Studio
CamStudio is an open source alternative to Camtasia. It’s a lightweight application that records your screen and audio activity and produces an AVI file out of it. With the built-in SWF producer you can easily transform those AVI files into streaming flash videos.
It is a good alternative for recording demonstration videos, such as you would use for product reviews.
CamStudio does not record from a webcam, so if you want to show yourself in the video, even if it is just in a corner of the review, then CamStudio is not for you.
Warning: During the installation you will be asked to add an application named ‘Glass Bottle App’ or something similar. Please pay attention and decline the installation of this app, otherwise you will find adware added to your browsers. If it already happened to you, here’s how to get rid of this malware.
Screencast-O-Matic is another software like Camtasia Studio, but different to CamStudio it allows you also to record videos from your webcam. This gives you a some more possibilities depending on what you plan to do and to show.
There’s a free and a pro version of Screencast-O-Matic available. While the free version is limited to a maximum recording time of 15 minutes, the pro version will set you back $15 per year and comes without limit.
As most review videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites are in the range between 3 to 8 minutes, you should be absolutely fine going with the free version.
YouTube Live Streaming is my last suggestion for Camtasia alternatives. With YouTube Live Streaming you can broadcast live videos in HD on YouTube as well as on your website. YouTube Live Streaming will make the recording available in your YouTube channel immediately.
Besides some additional features, YouTube Live Streaming also allows you to share your screen with your audience, so that they can literally look over your shoulder and see what you are doing.
If you don’t use video a lot and want to record a video just once in a while, then I recommend having a look at Loom.
Loom is a Google Chrome extension that allows you to instantly capture, narrate and share videos 100% free. It comes with a small limitation though, at the beginning you will have a maximum recording time of 5 minutes and your videos are accessible only for 24 hours.
These limits can be lifted with using their referral system. Just one referral will give you unlimited storage, and the second referral will give you unlimited recording time.
Put the free recording software to try
As you now know some free alternatives to Camtasia Studio, there’s no excuse anymore to not use video in your marketing. Now you can try all three of them and see which software similar to Camstasia suits you the best.
And to get you started immediately, here’s a great resource that helps you with your first review videos and with ranking them on one of Google’s top spots like I did as you can see in the screenshot below:
